Having designed and installed bespoke seating for venues that have been shortlisted for design awards, we take pride in providing custom seating solutions that fit within top interior design trends.
Looking back at recent commissions and enquiries, we have picked up on some emerging seating design trends that you should be aware of.
Custom seating is moving beyond straight lines towards soft, sculptural silhouettes. Forms that create a sense of comfort in both visual softness and literal relaxation create a sense of luxury in a space.
Curved banquette seating has always been popular but we have seen enquiries for rounded shapes ramp up in recent years. For restaurants, curved banquette seating enables diners to seat at a round table which can be more conducive for conversational flow. In other venues such as a hotel lobby, seating with a more natural curve can help anchor a space, adding personality to the interior design as well as a practical seating solution.
Here are some examples of curved banquette seating we have designed and installed:
For larger spaces, the idea of bordering a room with built-in furniture can create uninspiring zones. Freestanding banquette seating can break up a room to make a natural flow for the space, moving away from stark lines.
Bespoke furniture often needs to be both beautiful and functional. We’ve noticed a rise in requests for modular furniture; bespoke seating that suits the design of the room but can be moved around to suit the many functions of a space. An interior design trend for adaptive environments is emerging, and with that the need for custom seating that is movable to create multiple solutions and zones.
Here are some examples of freestanding banquette seating and modular furniture we have designed and installed:
While leather banquette seating is consistently requested by clients, more designers are choosing to explore more authentic and natural materials. As interior design trends become more eco-friendly, so too does the seating upholstery choice.
Some of the top choices we’ve seen for banquette upholstery has been linen and wool. As a natural, renewable fibre, wool is an excellent upholstery fabric choice for bespoke furniture, offering a luxurious look and feel as well as having the benefit of being naturally flame-resistant. A recent project for interior design studio Other Side showcases a perfect example of how a textured bouclé look adds softness and an organic feel to the banquette bench seating.
