Upholstery Department Manager

Atlas Contract Furniture are looking for the right individual to lead and manage a large team of skilled Upholsterers, including Apprentices, to achieve the timely production of Marine, Banquette and Bespoke projects to the required standards of quality and efficiency.

Working alongside other department Managers and the Upholstery Foreman, you will be confident in managing numerous projects through the delivery of company policy and operation procedures, ensuring quality standards are met at each stage.

The right applicant will have a proven track record and experience in a similar management role, excellent attention to detail, hardworking and driven to push projects through.

The right individual will also have the desire, and ability, to train and develop the department to reach the highest upholstery standards.

Recent Marine and Banquette Seating Upholstery experience as some time on the tools may be required.

Attention to detail is essential as you will be responsible for Quality Checking all work from your department.

The role will be physically demanding, involving lifting and carrying furniture.

Salary: (based on experience) £35,000 - £40,000 per annum with expected earnings of £45,000 per annum

Job Type: Full-time

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning and monitoring the departments production schedules and proactively work with other departments to ensure deadlines are met or managed as necessary, to minimise compromise to quality or standards of service
  • Training and development of upholstery team members
  • Managing the positive performance of all team members to meet company standards and deliver results - ensuring quality is of the highest standard at all times.
  • Working with suppliers, UK and overseas to agree on quality standards, price, delivery times of fabrics and hides and critical materials.
  • To assist in-house design, sales teams and buyers to ensure timely and compliant material receipt
  • Be responsible for Quality Control (QC) checks, ensuring reporting staff in reporting department complete QC checks accurately in line with Atlas standards and ISO requirements; working closely with Upholstery Foreman in respect of Banquette quality checking.
  • Ownership of stock control within the reporting department; accuracy, organisation, stockouts, overstock and visibility of stock within reporting department.
  • Hands on factory work, upholstering complete items or loose furniture as and when required and appropriate
  • Ensure the factory is kept clean and tidy to the required H&S standards

Person specifications:

  • Marine and Banquette Seating experience preferred
  • Experience in Coaching and Training staff
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to read and understand drawings and plans
  • The ability to take accurate measurements and work out amounts of materials
  • Organised and able to work to deadlines
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work without supervision
  • Experience in a Contract upholstery role is beneficial
  • Willing to occasionally work unsocial hours
  • Be an excellent team worker
  • Able to follow management instruction
  • Extensive Management & Upholstery Experience
  • English (Required)
